Getting to know Gary

Gary Bickford, 67, Ph. D., nurse practitioner and founder of the Healthy Life Clinics--a method of delivering affordable health care to the poor and under served, and winner of SCORE's 2011 award for an Outstanding Small Business Launched by an Individual Age 50-Plus.

SCORE is a nonprofit association, headquartered in Arlington, VA, dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and helping retired executives as their small businesses start, grow, and succeed nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and has been mentoring small business owners for more than forty years.

Bickford said that winning this award means that the work he is attempting to do in serving the medically underserved is being recognized as an important contribution to our society. "I am very confident that there were many other excellent small businesses that were nominated, and I suspect that my business was chosen more because of the efforts we are making to help others.," he said.

Bickford has also served 10 years with Stan Brock and the Remote Area Medical team to take health care to remote areas around the world. He will speak about his experiences in the health care field as well as some of the 659 events carried out by RAM.
